Digital X-rays

Digital X-rays are a fast and comfortable tool we use to assess your oral health. They emit less radiation than conventional x-rays, use small, comfortable sensors instead of sharp pieces of X-ray film, and transmit the images directly to our computer screen in minutes.

X-rays are commonly used in dental exams of patients of all ages, because many problems with the teeth and surrounding tissues cannot be seen by the naked eye. An X-ray is needed to reveal:

  • Small areas of decay between teeth or below existing restorations
  • Deep cavities
  • Infections in the jaw bones
  • Gum disease
  • Abscesses or cysts
  • Developmental abnormalities
  • Some types of tumors

We also have digital panoramic X-rays, which help us visualize your entire mouth instead of isolating selected areas. This full view is especially helpful in complex full-mouth restorations and in orthodontic treatment planning.

Intraoral Camera

Like digital X-rays, digital photographs taken with our intraoral cameras are a useful diagnostic and patient education tool. These cameras show you what we see during your exam and help us guide you through your diagnosis and treatment options. The also allow us to visualize more and diagnose issues we might not have been able to see without the up-close view that they give us.

Dental Magnification Loupes

Excellent dental care requires attention to detail and exacting precision. We must work in very small spaces and be accurate to a fraction of a millimeter. During complex procedures, our dentists use the same special prismatic magnification glasses, or loupes, that surgeons use. Yes, we take your teeth that seriously.

Computerized Records (We are a paperless office!)

At Hiram Center for Family Dentistry, we focus on reducing paper waste in our practice. We do this through our online patient registration paperwork and our paperless patient charts.
